Primegreen: Adidas takes on plastic waste

Back in December, Adidas announced an intent to curb plastic waste by making up to 60% of its products with sustainable materials. Since then, we have seen several product lines from YEEZY to Stan Smith refreshed with new materials. Today we take a look at the new Primegreen Superstar in Crystal White.

A modern interpretation.
A departure from the classic all-leather upper, this design uses a smooth canvas-like material for the majority of the upper. The iconic three stripes, normally emblazoned on the right and left are showcased subtly in this take. Faux suede accents reinforce the areas of heaviest stress and wear around the lace eyelets and heel.
The tongue on this model is the most significant design change. It appears to be made of foam sandwiched between layers of the upper material (in a slightly darker color). The look is unfinished in my opinion and, while it may rarely be seen, shows a lack of attention to detail.

Final thoughts.
Tongue aside, the designers at Adidas have created a subtle, minimalist, yet eye catching twist on the classic design from '69. The materials feel robust despite being appreciably thinner and lighter than their leather counterparts. Time will tell how Adidas' new materials hold up against real-world use. I will post wear updates on Instagram and make note of it here if this pair can't go the distance.
I'll see ya around the block.
